Beginnings …
I started my hand-stamping journey back in 2010. I was a new mom and really wanted one of those necklaces with my daughter’s name on it. I took a look on Etsy and found that they ran for around $50, which seemed like a whole lot for just a name stamped on some metal. (Side note: that’s why I stamp on copper, aluminum, and brass – I don’t want to charge a ton based on material fees.) Being creative, I decided to invest in a hand-stamping kit and make one myself. It took months of practice to get my stamping down smoothly and evenly; by that point, I’d discovered stamping quotes and scripture was way more fun than just stamping names. It wasn’t long after that I realized I could stamp coins (which allow me to pick certain years!), and then names became more standard stamping fare.
I never did end up making a mom necklace for myself – though I did make a penny using her birth year! That penny, along with ones for my son, my wedding, and my baptism, hang on my daily key chain.
And Now …
I stamp almost anything (no profanities or hate speech), send all over the world, and even participate in conventions. Hand stamping has become part of who I am.
